{% hint style="warning" %}
**Make sure you configure Velocity MTA to use the private IP that links to the public IP you want to use for your management IP address and sending IP addresses.**&#x20;
{% endhint %}

Use the ip command to see your private IP addresses:

`ip a`&#x20;

Look for output similar to this:

<figure><img src="https://2024949584-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FHNgw7cfnOYHQr0B6GDXr%2Fuploads%2F17NwdG2NNBkY883q8oAu%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=d4d567ef-262c-4700-a27c-641cf8d05bb3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You might also be shown your private IP addresses as part of the MOTD (message of the day) when you log in:

<figure><img src="https://2024949584-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FHNgw7cfnOYHQr0B6GDXr%2Fuploads%2F498u9qa0DOSfLRIz6G9a%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=e7d8b6b7-7b08-40f9-a4bf-4e9d8edd93ff" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Use the 'curl' command to find your "real" IP by initiating a connection from your private IP to a compatible website that reveals your public IP:&#x20;

`# curl --interface 10.0.0.246 icanhazip.com`\
`144.24.125.61`\
`# curl --interface 10.0.0.128 icanhazip.com`\
`144.24.125.186`\
`# curl --interface 10.0.0.42 icanhazip.com`\
`144.24.125.167`\
`# curl --interface 10.0.0.231 icanhazip.com`\
`144.24.125.150`\
`# curl --interface 10.0.0.82 icanhazip.com`\
`129.159.125.34`

{% hint style="success" %}
**Add the private IP addresses to velocity-install/conf/mta.conf and velocity-install/conf/ipaddresses that correspond to the public IP addresses you want to use for Velocity MTA.**&#x20;
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
&#x20;:warning: **Remember: you can't add the IP address being used by the ESP platform in conf/ipaddresses or conf/mta.conf** :warning:
{% endhint %}

Restart Velocity MTA anytime you've made a change:&#x20;

```
./restart.sh
```
