# Adding a new dedicated IP to a customer account

{% hint style="info" %}
This is a draft which is currently just a checklist, it will be fleshed out with screenshots and more details soon. It's here in case it's useful to someone in the meantime.
{% endhint %}

Each new dedicated IP using Velocity MTA has to go through the same steps:

\
1\) Add IP to velocity-install/ipaddresses on the VPS and run ./restart.sh

\
2\) Add PTR record with hosting provider that will match the A record for the header domain

\
3\) Add A record for the IP header subdomain in DNS hosting provider (Cloudflare etc) e.g. [mta.domain.com](http://mta.domain.com/)

\
4\) Add A record for the IP link subdomain which goes to the same IP, so same new IP is the sender IP, header A record, PTR record, link domain A record e.g. [link.domain.com](http://link.domain.com/)

\
5\) Add domain to the DKIM list in the [emaildelivery.com](http://emaildelivery.com/) backend MTA -> Velocity MTA Server -> DKIM tab

\
6\) Copy the newly generated DKIM record from that page into the DNS hosting provider \
so, if new ip is 1.2.3.4 then:

\
header: [mta.domain.com](http://mta.domain.com/) -> 1.2.3.4link: [link.domain.com](http://link.domain.com/) -> 1.2.3.4PTR: 1.2.3.4 -> [mta.domain.com](http://mta.domain.com/) \
DKIM TXT record: dkim.\_domainkey.mta.domain.com

\
7\) Create SPF record and add it to the DNS hosting provider (Use ChatGPT or an online SPF generator to generate the TXT record format)

\
8\) Create DMARC record and add it to the DNS hosting provider (again use ChatGPT or a generator)

\
9\) Edit the MTA server in the [emaildelivery.com](http://emaildelivery.com/) backend MTA -> Velocity MTA Server

\
10\) Add new IP under sender IP, add the header A record under header domain, add the link domain A record under the link domain

\
11\) Duplicate the MTA policy for another IP in the [emaildelivery.com](http://emaildelivery.com/) backend MTA -> MTA Delivery Policies

\
12\) Edit the new duplicated policy, flip the server page, change the dropdown to edit per-ip, click the edit pencil, uncheck all other IPs, check the new IP

\
13\) Save the MTA policy and click publish on the action button

\
14\) Duplicate a warmup schedule and delete all other IPs out of it and add the new IP to it

\
15\) Create a new postal route, name it after the full header domain with subdomain, select the new MTA policy you just created for 'Using Delivery Connection'

\
16\) Add the new postal route to the customer you want to have this IP
